I stripped down my lighting rocker switch to try and diagnose a sidelight problem. Unfortunately i couldn't rebuild it with the 2 hooked brass bits, so i left them out. Switch seems to be working fine but will it matter that i've left these bits out ie what do they do and where are they meant to go?
Cheers

They hold the switch into place, without them the switch will work it's way out of the switch panel all the time, otherwise no harm done. I find that if you unclip just one side of the switch and lift it slightly with a small screwdriver you can just about refit the clips one at a time.
I realise this is a fog lamp switch but the clips are the same, you can see how it is fitted at the top.

Ummm...i think there's a very tiny light bulb inside the switch. without the brass bits, these lightbulbs do not come on..
but then by the sound of it, your bulbs didn't work in the first place...
these bulbs however, do not affect the operation of the switches main functions
