basically i have a fuel leak, but i cant seem to find it! I drive along and every so often the cab fills up with a strong petrol smell, and the engine begins to run lumpy for a bit, then sorts itself out! i though it was just excess fuel getting dumped out the carb. today i was driving along with my window down and noticed a really bad smell of petrol whilst i was driving, and this didnt go away. so i def have a leak, any hints on how to find it though?

oh and this might explain the 22mpg i am getting, lol

the car is a 1275, with hiff44 (bdl needle), stage one. this has only happened since the stage one + new carb

help would be great :shifty:

have you stuck you head under the bonnet and car and looked for the leak ?

fuel leaks normally leave a clean bit where the dissolve oil and grime

i have had most my head under the bonnet, looking for leaks, feeling for leaks, checked all the pipes coming from the pump, checked round the carb, and peered under the car aswell. cant find any clean spots, or any wetness

Unless the carb is actually fitted with a float drain! then the fuel will disappear under the car while driving.

Try running the engine and look under the car, if the carb float is faulty, you may just see a small pipe dropping fuel under the car. If this is the case, the carb may need looking at.

I dont know if you carb has this facility, but its worth a look.

Have you check around the fuel filter, also check round the tank just to rule out it coming from that direction.

Check your breather pipe on top of the fuel tank itself. Henny doesn't have a hose attached to hers atm, and she reaks of petrol all the time, mostly when driving, but you can smell it very strong inside. Just an idea :)
