I have a problem with my 1990 mini, it had a strange noise when driving which i thought was either the cv joint or something to do with the disc, so stripped it down today(tried to!!!) got everything down to the hub ready to pull off the shaft, but it wouldn't come off, there was a bit of movement but it got held up and wouldn't come out. I snipped the inner cv boot and removed the whole shaft and hub assembly from the car, hoping that the outer cv would escape from the hub, but its seized on there!!!! I am guessing that this is the cause of my noise, would it likely be wheel bearing or the cv itself, the wheel when jack up spun without much resistance and hardly any noise at all, i am stuck!

The CV joints usually stick in when the bearings have got hot, usually when they are knackered. Try spraying duck oil onto the shaft of the CV joint at the front and back and leave for a while.
Fit the hub nut back onto the end of the joint so it sits flush with the end of the threads and give it a knock with a hammer to work it out.

As above.
DO NOT hit the shaft end with a hammer unless it is protected as the threads burr over very easily and create loads of hassle getting the nut back.
Sensible BFI with a hammer is required!!

I am leaving it overnight marinading in a duck oil puddle!!!! I reckon the bearings were making the noise, odd thing is that when spun with no load on the wheel they were quiet, and the car was mot'd last wednesday and no mention of it!!!!

If the bearings have broken up and 'grabbed' the cv - you will likely need a new one anyway. But as above - protect the threads - but you may well need to batter it!
