Hello! I'm a new member here.

From Japan.

I have a 1992 Subaru Vivio RX-R.

This car:

I want to up it's power. The current engine rev's a little higher than 9K rpm.

I'm wondering if a Honda engine is compatible with this car or if the AWD transmission kei car transmission would work with a Honda engine.

My only other idea would be to put in a motorcycle engine. But I'm afraid that might force the car to become RWD only and also lose the reverse gear.

I really want to keep it AWD - and with the original transmission.

Any insight/help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi and welcome to TMF. I don't think there is much you can do, engine swap wise, whilst retaining the awd transmission. The tranny was built for the 660cc (Kei) engine and I doubt it will take a load more power.

Could you do me a favour and give me the current price of a Mazda AZ1 in Japan. Where are you? What island etc?

Not sure on how much a Mazda AZ-1 is. You can try www.goo-net.com or www.carsensor.net

I am located in the Kanto region.

As for the transmission - I'm sure it could take a bit more power - as this is the supercharged RX-R model (top of the line, often time used for rally).

A 200hp Honda engine shouldn't be that much more trouble.

Besides, can't stronger transmission parts be fabricated?

I wonder if a Honda engine, say a B16/18 or KA20 would even fit in the bay, and also if a full size car engine can connect with a kei car transmission or not. I'd also be interested in supercharging said honda motor (since the car's current motor from the factory is supercharged.)

There are indeed ways to tune this car's engine, but I'd really rather swap in a larger motor and have useable power that will be there when I need it.
