you can pick up decent 998 replacements for around the £200 mark so they are great fun
good on petrol aswell, at about 50mpg
that was my first mini and it could cruise at 90 (i meant 70 but 90 isnt a problem .)
i drive a 1301 and its looking to cost me about £400 to repair -.-
would drop a 998 back in but im still insured for the 1300 so wouldnt be much point!

the reason it costs nearer a grand compared to some of you other 20 yr olds is because it has a midified engine, as in 1275 wasnt the original size (was probably a 998) so i told her that and she seemed to think that that mod would put the price up a fair bit? any thoughts?
minibonkerz - 50p?

Why is it that us mini owners find it hard to insure a little 1275, that is less likely to be raced about and show of, whereas if you get a 1.6 golf, vts etc that is more likely to get raced and used as a boy racer car you find it more easier to get insured
That really does stump me that one does.
Minis ARE raced about a fair bit actually. But i think the main reason is because young guys with Minis often modify them heavily (because there's so much to modify on them, and they're much cheaper to modify than other cars), and then they crash them.
One thing that does stump me about insurance companies is why they want to know the tiniest details about your car - i understand they want to identify potential risky drivers, but really, do i need to declare a tow bar, or xenon headlights, or a centre console!?
I'm 19, 1 year NCB, 6000 miles max mileage, wide wheels declared, £750 with Footman James. The lowest non-classic premium was about £900 and that didn't include breakdown/legal cover.

Buy a 998 Mini.
Insure it.
Put a 1275 in it.
Done.
Don't crash.
great advice there, i think not!
you can get insured on a 1275, just be prepared to pay a bit more! i got insured on a 1275 spi at 17, cost me a fair bit as i did quite a few thousand miles while i was still living at home, it cost me 1600 for the first year, icluding a couple of months as a provisional, quite a few months when i had passed and then a couple of months with pass plus which nocked it down a bit! that was only tpft though! buty it is do able! that was with the 13x7s, sportspack arches and maniflow exhaust! although i told them it was a specially made mini exhaust and cost the same as a standard exhaust, which isnt lying really! also told them about the bucket seats and door cards etc! if your worried about the mods, just get a standard mini, keep it standard for a few years! insurance love standard!
