I've used it in minis and other cars, I've got the "green" version which I seem to remember was for Diesel cars, although what the difference is who knows. I've got the tech data sheets somewhere on the computer too if you are interested. I generally mixed with Demin water (i.e. as used in batteries and steam irons etc) as I live in a very hard water area, and the bear minimum of antifreeze.
Does it work ?? Well that is probably a bit subjective without a full lab and lots of proper tests, but from my personal experience it seems to help the cooling system cope a bit better. For example on one car I used it on which is renowned for having lots of heat to deal with....... the temp gauge which previously would sit dead on level for normal running was now just slightly lower than dead level for normal running, and when pushed stayed there where previously the temp would climb over dead level.
In the mini's it seems to help keep temps under control despite use/abuse on Trackdays and "only" having a side mounted rad, albeit at 2 core. It definately doesn't cause any problems with any other kind of coolant to my knowledge.
