Hi guys got a few quick questions,
My 1989 Mini City E doesn't have a radio fitted from standard. I need to connect my headunit to the car and am gonna make my own wiring loom. I'm roughly aware of the different wires that I will need:
Permenant Live
Switched Live
Ground .....
Can't quite remember the others.
Can i take these points from the ignition barrell and is there anything else I should consider.
I.E Wire type.
I have read the wiring a radio thread however this hasn't really shone much light on the situation.
Any advice will make me smile, and be much appretiated :)
Thanks
Ben

If you're going to use inline fuses, then yes, the ignition barrel is fine, otherwise, use the fusebox if you have spare terminals.

Cable wise, headunits/radios don't really draw much current, so you could get away with using the likes of this stuf...

1mm stuff should be more than ample. They do other colours too.

To make life easier too, you could always buy one of these:

Obviously you'll have to wire to the fusebox/ignition switch then connect onto the ISO harness, but would make swapping radios much easier.

Yup just bought the same thing from fleabay
With the wire can I just double check the wire you posted would be sufficient enough as I dont want any fires or wire melting.
Also with the inline fuses what would be a suitable ampage of fuse to use and where is the best place to buy these?
And which wires will need the fuses, all of the live wires?
Thanks
Ben

Yeah, I the cable is rated at 16 amps, radio's will never pull 16 amps, plus, you should really only need a 10amp fuse at the very most.

Check to see what size fuse is in your headunit though, if it's any more than a 15amp, I'd suggest the 2mm cable which is rated at 28amps.

As for finding the likes of inline fuses, there's places like autosparks..

Although places like Halfords will sell them, but you'll probably pay a bit extra.
