Hi i have a 1987 mini mayfair with around 39 thousands on the clock. i was going on a dual carrageway yesterday and seemed to be flying past everyone but the speedo said i was only doing 70 ? are the dials reliable ? also what is the top speed of my car meant to be thanks matt.?
i would say that the dials are reliable after all it is only a cable runing from the back of the clock to the gearbox so not much can go wrong
as long as the needle is on dead zero when the car has stopped
i managed to get 90mph out of my mini 30 998cc so i would say around that area
and i get it all the time i had the exhaust come off at the downpipe on a dual carriageway so i decided to do 60 all the way back and i was still overtaking alot of cars

I remember a few years ago being in a friends 1430cc mini, four of us in the car, and we got the speedo to go around to the needle stop pin at 0mph and the car was still pulling. That was scary.
