Can anyone help me here, the brakes on my dad's mini are not as they should be, they don't have the "bite" that they should have and the back brakes have a tendency to lock with very little effort.

The car is a '71 and has cooper 7.5 discs on the front and drums from a 1275GT on the rear.
The master cylinder is a later type with the integral servo and has a green plastic band with the code LBBHCH005A 4L41 stamped into it.
All hoses are of the braided type.

The system has no air in it and my feeling is that the brake pipes are maybe plumbed in back to front ie the front brakes are plumbed to the rear circuit from the pressure reducing valve.

I would like to know which union on the M/C go's to which on the pressure reducing valve, then which go to front and rear from the pressure valve?

Thanks in avance

Andy

I'm pretty sure the rear circuit, on the valve, is nearest the master, with the staggered connections.

Is it the ghastly taper nose 'pressure reducing' valve - or the much better earlier 'pressure limiting' valve ? If the taper job - get rid of it - and fit the pressure limiting valve in the line to the back brakes. I did this - with the valve up front on the crossmember, where it was easy to open it up and 'adjust' the spring until I got a good balance.

It is the tapered type on the bulkhead, are these know to be a PITA ? I've only ever had dealings with the type that lives on the rear subframe.
Can anyone clarify which union on the MC couples up to which circuit?
