I've just installed my ICE setup (just 2 6x9's on a Kenwood headunit), but having some wierd problems with the headunit power connection;

I plugged the HU in using the ISO connector and it came on fine.

Turned it off and it wouldn't turn back on. Fiddled about checking wires and connections/unattaching connectors etc. and eventually it came back on.

It seems that whenever there is a cut in the power (eg. I turn it off/I turn the key to start the car (position III)/I turn the key to the off position), it won't turn back on unless you disconnect the iso connector from the back of the headunit AND also disconnect the ISO connector from the other black plug with all the coloured wires sticking out of it.

When you plug them both back in, it comes back on, but you have to repeat the process every time it goes off :wub:

Do I just need a new ISO plug or is there something else the matter?

Cheers

If youd said earlier on i would have taken a look tonight for you mate.

Few initial points to check;
An Iso connector is just a plastic block with lots of pins inserted, each on individual, check all of these are pushed fully into the block.

Check all your crimp connectors, as these can be temprimental to say the least (Why i said i prefer solder joints)

Check your earth if you have gone off the dash rail, make sure the surface is clean and fastened tight.

Check you have the switched live to the correct section of the ignition barrel, put a multimeter on it and check you get a constant 12v (Ish) output regradless of the switch being in position I or II.

You did wire yellow to perminant live and Red to swwitched diddnt you?

ISO is definitely pushed in properly

Crimp connections appear alright. Might solder them instead and see if it makes a difference.

Got the earth off the speedometer bracket as there was already a screw on it - very clean and tightened pretty well.

Taken the live (yellow) off fuse 3-4 (permanently on and getting 12v ish). Taken switched off 5-6 (also getting 12v when at position I or II). The same thing happened when I had both of them on the permanent live.

Might get Jimmy to take a deeks tommorrow at work :dontgetit:

Edit: The wierd thing is the fact that you have to disconnect BOTH ends of the ISO connection and then re-attach them for it to work. Doesn't work if you just take on end and push it back on :mrcool:
