Planning ahead, I have a '91. Do I legally have to retain the side indicator repeaters on the wing? On standard steel wheels do I have to have arches? It was originaly fitted with standard plastic arches, but the wheels dont seem to stick out much at all.

It's a Mini, anything the tight wads at Rover bolted to it in the factory is likely to be essential 
Side repeaters are required if they were original eqpt, but you could move or swap them as long as they meet the relevant regulation. The tread of the tyres shouldn't be visible when viewed from above, if you can achieve that without arches.

You definitely need the side repeaters for the MOT. They became compulsory in the mid 1980's.

The side indicators are a must.
As for the arches it comes down to what wheels you are running, if they are standard sized steels then I've always thought no arches was fine as none of the tyre sticks out, anything bigger and you can see the tyre and you need an arch.
