i have a copper head gasket but I have never used them before and am unsure if it's suitable for my 1380? or should I stick to a Normal 1?

Thanks

You use sealant on a head gasket? That's against popular advice I'm afraid...

I'm with Ouster... Wouldn't use sealant on a head gasket. Especially as it will squish out everywhere when you torque the head down into your cylinders, water gallery holes and oil gallery.

KC has an article on head gasket issues with 1380 motors... He said the biggest problem is the inconsistency of the bore spacing due to 'factory tolerance'. It is very important to ensure your machine shop 're-centres' the bores to suit your head gasket if you are boring to 73/73.5/74mm (1360, 1380 or 1400cc).

With all that sorted... Just use a good head gasket and make sure both the faces (head and block) are clean enough to eat off and are dead flat.

My 2 cents... (which is about 1.2p at the current exchange rate  )

A little tip smear Hylomar blue between bores and then use a 50mm long piece of 5amp fuse wire and place it on hhlomar then new gasket then head and torque head up to required ...........stops inter bore blow...........it works .....I'v never had a gasket blow since I was tought this by an engineer...............
