 HI guys and gals

I have a 81 city 998 and have just purchased a stage one kit with RC40 exhaust. Only prob is I have aquired a set of twin hs2 carbs, they need a rebuild, new inlet and filters but i'm unsure if the cost of refurbing these is going to be worth it?? I'm probably looking at £200 in parts to get them running so is it worth it? What I would ideally like to know is what power gain if any can I expect with the twins and also is the power gain worth the Cost???

Any Help is very appritiated as this is my first mini and would like to take steps in the right direction!!!!

THANKS ALL

probably very little gain, they would work well with a good head/rocker/cam combi.

As with most Minis, the limiting fators in performance gains are head and camshaft. To improve 998 you really need either a well-ported and gsd-flowed original 998 head or a 12G295 which is the 998 Cooper head. Then, once you have that, a better camshaft and improved induction system will show real improvements. That's when you will see the benefits of either twin 1.25" SU's or a larger single such as an HIF44 on a decent alloy manifold.
Just fitting twins to an otherwise standard 998 will not show much, if any, improvement as the mixture will still be restricted in its ability to get into the cylinders through the standard very restricted head.
Then, of course, you need a better exhaust manifold and system to get the additional burnt gases out again.

I wouldnt bother with twin even if you do get all the other parts suggested here. I did it and they are nothing but trouble and very difficult for a novice to set up correctly.

Not true!
Twins, if rebuilt well and setup do not 'constantly' fall out of tune,
the advantage of the twins is that they will improve your midrange torque and throttle response, they are also sit parallel to the inlet ports, and don't have to negotiate the bends in a single carb'd manifold.
