hi i have a 1991 mini cooper 1.3i.
i know minis are ment to have hard suspensions, but i want it to be a little bit softer and less bouncy. i know it will make the handling worse but i am not wanting soften it too much, just bearable.
so what do i need to make it softer, do i need just the shocks, or the whole suspension replaced?
also if anyone can post any links to a website with it on will be great, or just tell me what sort of suspension i will need
thanks

Minis are not meant to have hard suspension. You probably need new springs rather than shocks.

There's kits like Moulton Smootha Ride...

Or you could change the rubber cones for coil springs, although, I'm unsure if the road ones are any less harsh than the standard setup.

As Dan says, it will be the rubber springs that a probably causing the problem- they sink (causing a drop in ride height) and harden when takes away a lot of suspension movement.
In fact, I'd say the handling/ roadholding of the car will increase with new rubber 'doughnuts', regardless of the fact you may experience a touch more body roll - it's all about keeping the wheel in contact with the road.

I had a new suspension set up about six months ago - nothing fancy just replacement parts - made a HUUUUGE difference
given that the car was riding around on ancient old rubbers. Took about a month to fully "settle in" (I drive it every day but
don't do many miles) but now it's sweet as a nut.
You can go for coil springs to replace the rubber doughnuts and the concusses seems to be that MiniTastic do the best product
but unless you have deep pockets I'd just go for a new standard set of rubbers.
Remember it's a tiny car, simple design and it's never going to be like driving a Bentley - or even a Clio. But it's well worth the
smallish money to replace the basic suspension bits if they have hardened.
Best wishes
