Finally got the chance to road test the mini I just bought. I noticed under hard acceleration the car pulls to the right and when coming off the accelerator it pulls to the left and I get a judder through the clutch pedal. The pedal only judders when coming off the accelerator though. Generally the car doesnt feel stable in corners also. The car has been modified with coilovers and has quite wide wheels. Could this just be a wheel alignment problem and has anyone came across this before? Thanks

Could be lots of things......
Check your wheel bearings, top and bottom swivel pins, tie bar and lower arm bushes...... subframe mounts........ geometry

last week..
mini pulls right on gentle acceleration and left on lift off or deceleration,, turned out to be top ball joints. runs straight now,,
so check your ball joints...

Ball joint... swivel pins same thing... don't forget to lap them in to get better service life, reliability and smoothness of steering

Don't forget to check tyre pressures and track rod ends.

OK Ive checked suspension for wear and all seemed ok. I now know my car has had metro hubs fitted with 4 pot calipers. But still has non adjustable tie rods. After a quick search it seems Metro hubs throw the castor out quite a bit and need the adjustable tie rods to bring it back in spec. Could this be the problem. Car just feels very unstable in corners!

Yes but you will also need adjustable bottom arms to compensate the different hub design.

ok double checked everything this morning and found a bit of play in the Nearside wheel bearing. Is this a case of tightening the nut up a bit or does it need replaced? Its running metro hubs.
Thanks

Could be wheel bearing, CV joint or both, check them both for wear...... normal wear on the CV joint is where the bearing fits on the CV shaft, if there is a step then this is most likely to be the movement that you are feeling in which case it is a wheel bearing and CV, also a cone washer, most new CV joints have a new nut included
You will need to pull it all up using a large flat washer, as prescribed by Rover, Haynes and others
