resonably fast, just never known it to smoke before......
and kinda confused as to why it was only one side

It could be that one brake cylinder is partially seized. Are they new pads/drums? Does it pull to one side under heavy braking?

now this brings a good story,
my brakes have been pulling for months.....
in last year its had new shoes, pads, discs, calipers, flexi brake hose and they still pull, i barely notice it now because ive become so used to it

Could well be a stuck brake cylinder on one side then. Or maybe a non-round brake drum? Chances are thats why the brake was smoking, it has been sticking so generated loads of friction, dissipated as heat!
