Hi,
I bought 4 new NGK spark plugs from my local Halfords, paid cash and took them home ready for servicing the car later in the week.
Put them in and started it up, sounded like a bag of spanners.
Checked the HT leads, all ok,.
Checked the gaps all ok,
One plug obviously not firing No. 3, swapped them round from cylinder 3 to cylinder 1.
Problems was the spark plug, now No. 1 not firing.
Took them back to Halfords, sorry but the've been used.......................
No refund, No replacement.
emailed NGK, won't deal with the public.
Comsumer rights? Forget it, Caveat Emptor...............................................

I'd be onto Halfords head office or trading standards. That's not on.

You bought it, you tried it, it didn't work. Thus it was not fit for purpose and you are entitled to a full refund.
'Sale of Goods Act' covers this. Of ourse it's a 'used' part. You wouldn't know it was defective if you hadn't used it.
Go back to the shop with the defective part and your receipt and demand a refund. Don't leave without one. Clog up their point of sales until you get one. Be very assertive. You'll definately win.

Consumer law, If an item is faulty, then you are entitled to a replacement, exchange, or a refund, within its guarentaa period, which is minumum a year simple as. Maybe they mis understood you. If theres another Halfrauds near you go there instead, if not, just go back and try again.

buy a new pack (with a car/ or get a receipt) and swap them round... then take the other ones back

Im not sure I understand this. is it a way to obtain a receipt and packaging if you have lost the original ones? Presumably the OP has the original packaging and the receipt? If the plugs are returned (what excuse would you give?) If they were inspected then it should be possible to tell they have been fitted even if the engine has only been fun for a short time. Worse, if they are accepted as a return they will end up back on the shelf and sold to some other unfortunate.buy a new pack (with a car/ or get a receipt) and swap them round... then take the other ones back
You can't really blame Halfords for not refunding if you don't have the original receipt. If you have, go in and raise the roof, demand to see the manager, do whatever it takes to get what you are legally entitled to.

I've never had any problems with NGK Spark Plugs, so perhaps someone played football with the set you bought.
Anyway I'd say it's best to return the complete set of 4 spark plugs you bought, plus produce the original receipt and demand a refund or exchange due to one being faulty.
Surely they can tell their still new because they'll be clean and they could at least test the faulty one?
Either way they are obliged to replace the faulty item.
