New Clutch Nightmare

fitted the new clutch kit to my cooper verto type now when i try and start the car the starter wont engage and to top it off when i get it to start the clutch isnt engaging tried bleeding but still not working.Pedal feels good .One thing i have done is extended the bar which goes in the slave i was told by loads of people could this be the problem.Any help would be great.
just put the battery charger on it and it started

If you have extended the arm from the slave then you will have problems- the Verto is not designed to work like that. Long arm is pre-verto

Iwas told to put a bit more on the slave rod as it would give me more clutch pedal all i no is the clutch aint engaging one bit.
its had new bearing
preasure and clutch plates
new arm and slave rod
new pins
grrrrrrrrrrrr

just realized the clutch i took off was valeo and the one i put on was ap will that cause a problem i got a feeling ive been suplied the wrong kit the clutch plates were the same but preasure plates looked different its driving me round the bend i think lol

Have you correctly adjusted the throw out stop?

yes throw out stop adjusted just tried the clutch and managed to get into gear but realy hard and the same problem the clutch bites right at the floor this was the origanal problem before i changed everything what can cause this when everything is now new

Could be leaky slave cylinder, does the pedal feels spongy at all?

no pedal feels good arm and plunger seem to move well has the primary gear got anything to do with this do you think

Did you put the "top hat" bit over the end of the clutch/flywheel assembly before putting the flywheel cover on? A friend forget to do this and they also couldn't get the clutch to work. It's this jobbie if you are not sure what I'm on about - http://www.minispare...ty=pb&pid=34293

yes i put the top hat on nearly forgot mind you as i say its now got the same problem as before i done the clutch i do think the problem is beyond the clutch also ive put origalal slave rod in to see if that was an issue just went through the haynes manual and i never greased the splines on the primary gear could it be this

Well ive taken the clutch back off today to make sure ide done nothing wrong and it all looks as it should had someone else look also .Checked the c washer for damage and it was fine.Too recap the clutch is a new kit new arm new pins new plunger all adjusted correctly the pedal feels as it should with a bit of force i can get 3rd and 4th but thats it also if i turn engine off press clutch and then start it actualy works in first not well mind you but soon as i take it out of gear it wont work again please help guys.And all gears work with engine not running
