I've got a stock metro engine (9.75CR) in my mini and was thinking what cams would be ideal for road use.
It's fitted with a stage 1 kit and hif44.
Was thinking about the 276 and 286 but not sure if this is too much for road use? Would I need to change anything like cam followers or valve springs for these?
Would I get similar results just from putting 1.5 ratio rockers for an easy bolt on job?
Thanks

Mg metro, 266, 276, around that duration. A 286 may be on the upper limit, but have heard a few people use them in dailys fine so.....

Would adding 1.5 ratio rockers get similar results with the 276? Are standard valve springs and cam followers fine with the 276?

I have heard the MG cam is quite nice for road cars. The engine is stock then maybe invest in a stage1 kit for starters.

If you do want to change it, save the money on the rockers, and get a 286 if dont mind some very mild lumpiness (IMO).
Get a cam kit with new followers and double springs. Will probably need adjustable chain drive as well to time the cam.

If you get the 276 you will probably like it (its what i have) but you will soon wish you had gotten more lol

The MG Metro cam would be absolutely ideal, or the Kent Megadyne 266 which is very lose to the Metro one in both duration and lift. You could go to the 276, but to benefit you do need a much better flowing head and higher compression ratio. A 276 will be a bit lumpy lower down. The n286 is a high-performance rally cam and not really suitable for a road car as you need close ratio gears to keep it in the power band whih then means a lower final drive ratio and loss of cruising speed due to the lower gearing. The 286 needs a radially modified head, induction and exhaust system to give of its best.
