IMO Stick with the HIF 44 and referb it. It will supply more than enough for your engine

There is no point improving the induction system unless the rest of the engine can benefit, which a standard engine just won't. You wiould need a better cam, a gas-flowed head and a better exhaust system to see any improvement when fitting a Weber. Don't forget, you have to cut the bulkhead away and weld in a box to clear the Weber intakes. It's quite a major job, but you could do a lot of engine work whilst the engine is out as it probably will be to fit the weber bulkhead box..

and because your cutting the bulk head you would need an IVA, which will then mean that loads more of mods will be needed to pass!

I've never tried, but it may be possible to use the existing hole in the bulkhead and make up an aluminium box to bolt onto the bulkhead on the inside with a suitable sealant. That way you are not modifying the bulkhead, whih remains as original. The box is just to fireproof the interior and to provide a new mounting for the central instrument binnacle, if a central binnacle is fitted. In any case, it would not take a genius to slightly modify the existing bulkhead hole so that it still looks standard. How many MoT testers actually know, for sure, the profile shape and size of that hole. We are only talking about an inch or so. Next time I have a 45DCOE in my hands I'll try it for size. It might mean a special inlet manifold to get it to line up with the hole.

Unless it has a swan neck manifold or your MOT Tester is a proper jobsworth !!!
