I'm in the process of stripping the mini out a bit. Not going on a diet and removing anything more than a gram, but just enough to give a wee, racey feel. So, I've removed the rear seats, but was wondering who removes the carpet on the rear parcel shelf, and what people do about the door cards? I want it to still look good, but behind the rear door cards, you can see primer, (presumably from the factory, or a respray that it may have had where somebody decided not to fully paint the inside bits that would be covered up), and I couldn't really leave them off without the car looking awful.

Also, the car needs a new headlining, I cant take the headlining out as there's a dent or two that have been filled in the roof, and I'm looking for ideas. I wouldn't want to pay anywhere over £100 but I'd quite like a dark grey, or black one. Does this make the car seem really dark though as I've never seen a car with black headlining. (Also, I'm aware that there's a few individuals that represent, or are manufacturers on this site, so if anybody could recommend anyone, that'd be great).

And the last thing, I want black dash rails, and black steering column. The steering column's no problem, as I can spray that, but the vinyl on the dash is a bit of a pain, so is it possible to a) dye it, or b) use some sort of flexible paint to recolour it. (I'm just being cheap I know!).

Right, thanks guys.
:D

Cool, cheers bud. Has anyone got experience with the halfords flexible paint. I think I saw it a while ago but it was like a tenner for one can, and I'm not paying that to find out it's crap. lol

So basically you want to remove your rear Door Cards but line the inner metal with a covering of some sort? I think we can sort that type of thing out for you.

EDIT: I understand now...

"Also I don't understand why you can't remove the Headlining because you have dents in the roof?" was my question, but you mean you can't strip it out, not that you can't take it out to replace it.

As for dark Headlinings - they will make the interior feel more like a race car cockpit :D

i think he means that he cant remove it and leave it out. as the dents will be seen from the inside

i would try acoustic carpet stuff for the insides of the rear quarters, it will give more of a stripped look than something like leather cards, and if it stuck well then should help keep it quiet in there too. same with the roof lining too, if you were to line it with acoustic lining it may make the dents less noticable and also act as a good sound killer, and maintain the more stripped out look

I used that for my old mini. Had it like that for a year or so, and the finish never dulled or wore off. Masked and papered all the interior, and a couple of thin coats gave my dash rails a healthy black finish. I also did all the plastic covers and air box under the bonnet in my MPi, and I've still got plenty left in the can.
