Please help, we're hoping to buy parts this week so I can make my boyfriend fit them at the weekend :D

Model: Mini City
Year: 1991
Description of problem (please be as in depth as possible): The car is idling rough; it sounds like it is missing at low revs. Revving it out of gear, it sounds fine at high revs. Apparently at high speeds, there's slight but noticeable intermittent power loss - I've not noticed, but boy drove it back from London to Brighton last weekend and said it wasn't great (although we did get caught in that massive rain shower on the M25? Can that make a difference? The engine looked dry as a bone when we got home.)

The engine is its original 998cc A-series (I like it, it might not go up hills but it's damn cheap to insure and stops me doing 100mph and killing myself).

We've recently replaced the alternator (it died and makes a fun rattling sound when you turn it! Hurray!)

Any non-standard parts that might be involved with the problem? Don't think so :)

Anyone got any ideas what we should be looking at to fix him?

Do you have a weather sheild on the engine? Sounds like corroded ignition parts, clean the contacts on the dizzy cap, and give the dizzy itself a wash out with wd40 to get any moisture out. May be worth just buying a new cap, rotor arm and ht leads as they dont cost much.

Sounds like burned valves - but check the valve gaps first before lifting the head. A compression check would be a good idea.........
