Just took my mini clubby estate for a mot and they failed it on emissions and not having a door handle for the back door, i can unlock the door from the inside. is this right? the year is 1979. Thanks alot Joe.

Every car no matter what age has to pass an emissions test of some form, the scale of that test is determined by the age of the vehicle
Vehicles first used on (or after) 1 August 1975 are subject to the standard non-cat emissions test, pre that then it's just a visual smoke test
Regarding the handle on the back door, that's a weird one, Yes the Front Driver and Passenger Doors need to be able to be opened from both the inside and outside, but first time I've heard that rule being applied to a rear door... I'd question that...

well the normal tester comes of holiday tomorrow, he never does a emission test on it, failed on hydrocarbon 1581, max is 1200 how can i get this down? thanks

You might have to try play with mixture. But realy a decent mot place would have ago for you our place tends to.
My mate who tests mots takes the vac advance pipe off the carb that some times work or he takes breather off.
They have to rev between 2000 and 3000 RPM when doing the Emitions test but we tend to do it btween 2500-3000.

Set the tickover to about 1800 rpm then weaken the carb off so that it will still just run. That normally does the trick.
