As you can see, this Mini has had its grille mounted behind the front panel, and doesn't have any surrounds. How have they done this? I'd like a similar setup on my Mini once it's been fully resprayed :(

Is that not just a mk1 grill with no tash?

I genuinely don't know. Are Mk1 grilles mounted in this way?

Do the grille slats stick out when you remove the moustache, or does the grille tuck behind the front panel?

the grill sits in the recess that is in the front panel, making it sit flush....

as mini-jon has said, just dont add the 'moustashe' surround...

Posted Image

that grill is simply a different type, a benelite i think?

It looks really nice. The slats look much narrower than the standard type. A quick search on Benelite grilles suggests it'll be extremely hard locating one though.

I'm double posting, sorry - but is there no parts suppliers that stock the more special grilles? I've just spotted a Mk1 grille in another thread but the moustache is much more to my liking.

Lowriderhornet's post, page 3, the green Mk1 about 1/3 of the way down. That's a great looking grille :(

I also found a picture of my car with my mk1 wavy grill and no surround.

Sadly I hit a pheasant at about 70mph going down a duel carriage way one day and it bent this grill pretty badly.

I think that's probably a custom grille made to sit flush with the front panel. If you wanted to get an off the shelf MK1 grill to sit flush you'd need to cut out the lip that it screws onto and reinstate it further back.
