Brian just failed too, he had the same problem with the back brakes, a balljoint needing shimmed and a split CV boot (although I got the CV joint replaced as it was clicking sometimes).
Could have done it myself, but didn't have my usual 2 weeks free to do the job lol, i'm not a fast worker when it comes to mini. So I paid my local mini specialist to do it, Re-MOT the next day and bobs your uncle it passed.
So don't feel down, only thing i'd look at for the future is tackle some of the corrosion before it gets too bad....
