i found a good idea at halford yesterday there axel stands place them where you wont then you wind them up and the car goes up from these thought it was a good idea

i dont mind jacking up on sump as it wont hurt it its all about dispersing load with the wood.

No it's not. :)

If you look at the engine mounts you will realise they are not designed to to have the whole weight of the front subframe and most of the body shell suspended from them.

I will look and see if I have a picture of the original drawing of these "Jack Blocks" from back in the day. In my photo blog the block actually 'hooks' the subframe in front of the gearcase. The wood allows the load to be dispearsed along the 'sloped' section of the subframe between the tie rod mounts. I have made a couple of dozen of these and everyone seems to like them, especially the racers when they need quick access to the underside up front. A couple of clicks and I found it.
