Hi,

Too Much oil consumption, it's time to open, look inside and improve  .

Today I have a 1994 near-stock Cooper SPI 12A2EF77, only one mod : a stage 1 (LCB, RC40 & KN in airbox). The final drive is 3.21 and 12 inch wheels, tires 165x60x12.

I have read numerous valuables posts from Sporcket, Git, DaveRob, Klas and other dudes, but it remind me some questions ^_^.

The idea is to give more torque to the car, HP in high rev. isn't the goal.
I target a car very responsive in low rev and I never go to 6000 RPM.

As it is injection, the choice for the camshaft is very limited, as I plan to keep the ECU (at least for the moment).

The Kent MD274 seems to be the right one. But I see Sporcket is preferring the MD274SP, not given for injection according to Kent website, but proven working fine.

1/ Witch Kent cam will give a higher torque curve from 1000 to 5500 RPM? "scatter pattern" doesn't speak to me...

2/ According to other experiences, for max torque, people do like the Swiftune SW5-07 without 1.5 high lift rocker. Do you have any comments on this one VS Kent's cam ?

3/ About the head & valves : something like 35/29 or 36/29 the good choice ? Should preserve the torque.

Thanks you for your opinions.

Hi,

Forget to tell the final drive will be changed to 3.44
It's important to know this, regarding the whole choices for components.

i have only heard good things about the swiftune SW5-07, but im not too sure which if its "better" than the kent, but this cam has been recommended to me by a few people i have spoken to, you could think about 1.3 ratio rockers if you didnt want 1.5's as 1.5's would comprimise drivability down low. about the cylinder head a good spec stage 3 head will be fine like the sizes you said.

Thanx Jack for your advices.

I didn't find yet any charts between all injection dedicated camshaft ...

For the 1.3 / 1.5 ratio rocket, the choice depend on the camshaft. I've seen some curves for the RE13OT with a standard or 1.5, and it's clear it NEEDS a 1.5 ratio rocker.

I think I'll take the Kent274, for a simple reason : a friends rebuilt his SPI with it, and it's a really good CAM for torque in low revs.

Regards,

Phil
