what oil pressure is the turbo engine supposed to run on. is it the same an a non-turbo, or is it more because of the extra feeds?

I believe it should be about 55psi, can be above that though, at 110psi the oil filter will fail. Above 80psi (you'd have to be running a high pressure oil pump) and your sapping power from the engine). It can idle down to about 40 though, you don't want to be getting much lower than this.
I heard that turbos having extra oilways is a bit of a myth?

yeah the oilways are the same...... :fear:I heard that turbos having extra oilways is a bit of a myth?
the oil pump to use on a turbo motor is high capacity+high pressure
so i would say the oil pressure would be higher than an N/A motor most of the rev range
i also read the turbo needs minimum of 60 psi when the engine is on boost
mmmm...boost

Garrett specs for the Metro installation was:
30PSIG miniumum to the turbo at and above peak BMEP engine speeds
2litre / min oil flow based on 10-40w oil at 88degC and 40PSIG
Not to exceed 80PSIG at the inlet connection
From the pukka Garret instalation spec sheet for the Metro turbocharger.

Personally - I run 50 psi max (peaks at around 55psi when stone-cold) which drops to 30-35psi at hot idle. :wink:

does your pressure rise above 50 under load dave? just wondered because mine at the minute sits at 40psi constantly....cold idle/under load/when hot etc. it only ever drops to about 30psi at idle after a good run down the motorway, or if the level drops a bit. (got a leak from the rod change
)

That sounds ok to me... I'd prefer to see something a little higher just to be on the safer side, but so long as you're seeing not less than 40 under load, you'll be fine.

yeah i wanted it a bit higher than that aswell, must get round to fitting that adjustable oil pressure thing this weekend i suppose.
