I have a mini convertable project that has had all the body work completed by the previous owner. I have nearly completed the project but it came with no dipstick.

I think it was a mayfair but it has no identity so i may be wrong. It is a late car, must be 90's as the engine is an A+ without the bypass hose and it has the side repeaters, proper servo brakes and discs as standard on the front. It is a 998cc automatic.

The problem i have is not the lack of a dipstick as i can get one of those but i cannot see were the dipstick actually goes. I know this is a really silly post but i have had a good look around the engine and cannot see any form of hole. I am used to the early engine blocka and have never encountered an automatic before therefore i am seeking some help to the location of the dipstick. It is an issue because i obviously can't check the oil level. Is supposed to be just drained and filled with the correct amount on these?

I hope there is a current or past automatic owner out there that knows more about these engines then i do.
Any advice is welcome and no matter how obvious you may think it is please mention it to me it may just solve this problem.

Hi, it's not a silly question - it took me a while to find it! I have a 1990 998cc auto - the dipstick is on the left of the engine (viewed from the front) underneath the coil.

Hope this helps.

I think you can use a normal dipstick but you will have to cut it down and put new marks on it >_<

after a closer look i have found the hole and the dipstick. the dipstick is plastic and had been snapped of flush with the top of the hole. i have managed to retrieve the dipstick. thanks for all your help.
