Hey everyone.

A problem has just developed with my brakes, in that the pedal gets stuck down after heavy braking. Sometimes it's just momentary, and sometimes i have to put my foot underneath it and pull it up to release it. I figured it might be the servo, so i disconnected the vacuum pipe from the manifold and tried driving, but it was still pretty sticky. It also seems to be worse in hot weather. Does this mean it's likely to be a problem with the pedal mechanism itself? I would imagine that if one of the calipers was sticking it wouldn't manifest itself as a sticky pedal.

It's a 1989 mini racing with servo and discs at the front.

Thanks,

Ben

Ok, just drew some diagrams to get my head around all of the pressures and valves involved in this thing, and i have realised i probably haven't proved anything by disconnecting the vacuum pipe from the manifold, i need to disconnect it from the servo itself to remove the influence of the one-way valve in the middle and allow atmospeheric pressure into the sucky-side of the servo. Could anybody confirm this for me?

It might be easier to just remove the clevis pin that connects the master cylinder to the pedal linkage. You're right about the servo

Sorry, i'm a bit confused about how that would help - wouldn't it just disconnect the brakes completely from the pedal?

Yes, & if the pedal is still stuck down it must be the pedal linkage. A faulty servo would do similar.

It's a totally intermittent problem, and it only happens after heavy braking while moving at speed. Unfortunately I don't think i'll be able to get it to stick down under test conditions...

If it turns out to be the sevo would it be advisable to replace it with a good second hand one or rebuild my existing one?
