Lift Off Oversteer. its when you come off the throttle in a corner and the back comes out, and you go sideways or more than often, spin. this usually happens when you push it to the limits. i had it happen on a wet trackday, ended up on the grass, luckily i didnt hit anything or anyone, pretty scary when you fell it start to slide, most people do the wrong thing and hit the brakes, which makes it worse.

I think it's "Lift Off Oversteer"

Foot comes off the throttle, back end swings out.

Could be wrong though.

Edit: Beaten to it by samsernie :turtle:

its mostly about weight transfer
when your accellerating, foot on throttle, all the weight is at the back of the car (you may feel the front rise a bit and rear drop) when you lift off the throttle or brake most of the weight moves to towards the front of the car, ( you may notice that when you brake heavily the front "dives" a little, if you know what i mean) making the back end very light, and theres very little weight pushing down on the rear tyres, causing oversteer

understeer, when the front wants to go straight on when your cornering, normally in the wet, is mostly due to too much throttle, transfering the weight to the back of the car, making the front light, with very little weight pushing the tyres onto the road. this normally happens when i go full throttle into a corner , theres little weight on the front wheels, and they start spinning, backing off the throttle a little normally helps regain grip in this situation.

oversteer is when the back of the car wants to overtake the front.

Doesnt it happen because when you take your foot off the throttle you havnt got that traction pulling you forward and keeping it going?

pulling you forward would straighten you up and stop the back end leaning out - so yeah it is to do with that a bit

I don't think it is really lift off oversteer in a front wheel drive car, but what's in a name.

In a rear wheel drive car if you're pushing the tyres hard round a corner the contact patch will be distorted to give an effect similar to a screw thread - making the back end hang out (drifting). If you were to let off the throttle the tyres would stop corkscrewing as much and you'd find yourself heading rapidly towards the inside of the corner.

You can get a similar effect in a FWD car but it's much easier to control as you can steer the driven wheels.
