Hi guys

I'm still stuck for colour ideas for my minus project.

I was thinking of a retro look (mk1 etc) so maybe smoke grey. I know the norm is a white roof with this colour but how do you think it will look wi black chequered roof and black arches?

I'm open to other suggestions too for retro colours. The antelope colour looks quite nice but i'm not sure if it would suit a minus?

Cheers

R

Thinking of this for my mini gunmetal grey body, black roof and black revolutions, Go for it - are you spraying yourself?

cheers guys

Yeh I'm having a go at spraying myself. My first go so wanted to keep things simple hence using a sticker kit for checked roof, not spraying it.

I saw a mini today at Tatton wi the roof contrasting colour (black) and red body. The black was taken down to the waist line, looked great but will be too hard for me to spray.

Anyway, smoke grey and black sounds good to me. In the pictures I have seen smoke grey looks more blue than grey to me?? Think it'll be ok wi black?

Gunmetal would look nice but i really wanted none metallic for that retro look

Nice one.

It's really hard to pick a colour scheme! Mainly as I'm indecisive.

I'm thinking black and red. (Ruled yellow out now but still love it)>

or Grey (Tweed?) sort of retro colour.

or Carrieban Pearl (that looks lovely but may prove too dark for contrasting arches/roof to work)

ahhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!

Help me decide please

i think something non metalic would suit the minus more. like the a grey painted in cellulose paint. it would probably hid the fact its a minus a bit. make people take a second look

exactly what i want boyo

Plus non metallic may help reduce the liekliness of seeing the inevitable 'wobbliness' of fibreglass.

Saw some nice TVRs at Tatton but the bodywork was rubbish on some of em!

There's one lad on that colour guide page wi Antelope grey (more sort of olive colour in my eyes) and black arches. Looks the business on his Clubman

if its what you like then go for it, dont forget to put pictures up when you do.

mettalic paint will show up any slight imperfections more aswell, so might be better if its your first go at it

Nice colours. I'm still tempted by the red and black combo I personally think it suits the Mini well and gives it a good retro/race look.

No worries mate.

I'm going to use Powermax as I bought these new many years ago. I've been out the mini scene for a few years now but when I bought these Omega were more expensive and (i think) were regarded as slightly superior over Powermax. There was quite a big price difference tho! which was the decider for me.

Read Vizards bible, its great but not too sure if it mentions Omega?? (can't remember sorry), I think piston choice goes mainly on the shape of crown (affects compression ratio and swirl I believe) and the strength you require from it; i.e. fast road or full race (how long will it last at red line etc)

Anywho.....yes I think the picture is Smoke grey thank you. I have bought two colour aerosols and just tried them.

Here's my rough opinion so far.......

Smoke Grey; Grey/blue (more grey than blue) I've tried this paint.

Sandy Beige; Grey/beige (more grey than beige) I 've tried this paint.

Cumulus grey; Blue/grey (more blue than grey but v similar to smoke grey) Only seen pictures of it

El Paso beige; Cream/grey (more cream than grey) Only seen pictures

Decisions, decisions lol.............
