Do the revs drop when you press the clutch pedal ?
or...
Do the revs only drop when you select 1st gear ( clutch obviously still depressed ) ?
and if so..
Do the revs drop if you select ANY gear from neutral..
The reason I ask is both lead to very different parts of the power unit.

uh huh but the revs drop so much it stalls to combat this i keep adjusting th revs under the bonnett is that ok~?"Ah, so when you put it into drive it slows down... this is normal for an automatic as basically it's like sitting in a manual car riding the clutch...

There's just not enough people around who know how to fix mini auto boxes.. which makes it damb expensive.

want to convert to manual tho lol but thats even more expensive lolthen that's not normal, and suggest you do an oil change pdq... any more than that then it's old "Automatic gearbox too expensive to fix" syndrome..

Or it could be to do with the gearbox governor and the kickdown linkage. If the kickdown linkage isn't returning properly then it will hold the throttle open a little. In the same way that you should set the idle speed with the throttle cable fully retracted you should also make sure that the kickdown has fully returned. Try lubricating the kickdown linkage and all it's parts. It'll be tricky to get to and you'll need to get under the car to do it. The kickdown runs from the throttle spindle to the governor housing on the rear RHS of the gearbox as you look into the engine bay, going through a bell crank above the diff first.
Try it, it might work but as GW said autos are funny beasts and hard to fix. Minispeed are currently selling off some NOS auto box power units if you want one.
