Hi all

Ive got a mini city 998, and im part way through changing to a centre speedo. When locating the gearbox end of the speedo cable i found that there is a good inch gap between the front subframe's rear mounts on both sides between the mount and the mini's shell. Is this right? Is it a floating joint?

Thanks, a bit concerned now cause ive just done a 300 mile round trip.

Should have two mounts there.

I would imagine it drives horribly without them!

There is a gap..but thats were the mounting rubber goes.

Should be a flat section bolts to the floor, rubber block bonded to that with an angled bracket bonded to that..the angled bit bolts to the subframe.

Long that is there and the rubbers not split and its bolted tight no problem

On the passenger side there is the flat section bolted to the floor with the rubber block bonded to it, but no angle bracket attached. By the looks of it, the angled bracket has split from the flat section and is now only attached to the subframe.

On the drivers side the flat section with rubber block is loose from the floor - basically eyes on each side through which the bolts go have broken and its now loose with about 10mm free play.

Time for new mounts by the looks of things.

Any suggestions on what mounts to go for? standard? polybush? etc.

I'll pass on that, I just renewed with standard seem to still be in good condition after a couple of years.

Solid metal mounts at all front sub-frame fixing positions, but you MUST do all 6, not just the rear ones or the floor will suffer from fatigue cracking later on. You will also be amazed at the improvement in steering response and how 'crisp' the car then feels.

Just put standard rubber mounts in unless you are into serious road driving,

I have a pair of these in the shed, used for about 100 miles before changing them due to upgrading the whole lot.

PM me if you are interested in them.

its not uncommon for them to split, i ended up fitting polyurethane ones, then went to solid ones.

If the rears are gone it's probably a good idea to change the front teardrop mounts too.

I think MRA sell them as a set on ebay, or their own website.

Can change the lot in an hour or so, but be careful, you don't want an engine and subframe falling on your head!

94Mayfair the rear subframe only bolts on in 4 places.

Its basically a square frame, the mounts are in each corner..2 bolts per corner hold the mounts on.

We've used orange polybushes on this one, but shows were they are :proud: will be black rubber if original
Ignore the orange mount in the middle thats exhaust mount
