i have a 1986 austin mini mayfair 998cc

basicaly i was wondering how hard it would be to rewire the whole car. for some strange reason when i put my lights on the starter motor starts kicking back in. and when i start the car the lights come on even tho the switch is turned off.

so basically would i be able to rewire the car myself?

cheers

sean

You have a short between the lights and starter feed. but can you let me know is it on side lights or headlights or main beam. it is most likely a quick fix. when you switch just the side lights on does that cause you fault or is it when you put the headlights on (switch at second click.) try this with the full beam stalk switch at off.

Ok have you moved any of the connectors on the fuse box? if not then its defo a wiring short in the front loom. check the cables as they come off the starter motor and trace them back to the relay on the inner wing. if anything looks burnt or sliced through or insulation rubbed away that could be your problem. if all looks ok then do the same for the wires which come from the head light connectors behind the front panel. they should be close to the horn. there should be a blue/white a red/blue and a black. its the blue white thats for the headlights and red/blue for the side lights so have a good look at the blue white.

A new harness would be your cheapest and easiest route..... unless you are a wiring harness design or manufacturing engineer / technician >_<
