Hi all,
I am in the process of a 1 year strip and rebuild on a 1986 1000 Mayfair for my son who will be 17 in July. Most things have gone well. However, it turns out someone changed the original engine and it now sports a 1275cc. Great for performance, but not so good to get it insured for a 17 year old. Anyway, the flywheel and clutch have been removed, checked and re-assembled, (along with almost every other nut and bolt). After the engine was put back into the car I read the warning in the haynes manual about ensuring that the balance marks were alligned between the flywheel and the pressure plate. I did not do that !
Questions are, do I now need to strip out the clitch/flywheel again ? what are the balance marks really showing ? and what is the effect if I do not check, and/or re-allign them ?
Regards
Keith

good question!! Anyone? Also having a big wobble/vibration from my newly rebuilt and thinking this may be the prob?
The timing marks show firing position on cylinder 1 BTDC. (piston 1-from the radiator end- on compression stroke stroke about to fire 'before top dead centre') and.
I have the same question as my engine I recently stripped down had the flywheel upside down with the marks at the bottom and always seemed to run ok and in balance but not anymore.
When I rebuilt it I decided I should use the timing marks for setting the engine up so they could be seen through the flywheel inspection cover so rotated the flywheel 180 degrees and also had to rotate the clutch compression plate as the 'A' marks would not line up no mater what I did? I think at some stage somebody has actually incorrectly assembled the flywheel with it's backing plate making it upside down. anyway now I have what sounds like vibration and botom end bearing noise...could this be the reason?
