Right, just a quick question..........

I have just fitted a Weber 40 dcoe to my engine, it sounds great but I would like some sort of cold air intake. Whether it be on the bonnet, up from the front or any other way. I DON'T want any stupid air scoops like a subaru impreza one, just something that will stop the carb sucking the hot air straight off the exhaust manifold!

I have got an oil cooler mounted at the front, so I was thinking some duct on the rear of that to catch the air that passes through it. What do you think?

I am open to comments/suggestions!

i personally have got bonnet pins which mean i can raise the back of the bonnet up, it means cold air rushes through the grill and out the back of the bonnet, its cheper and more subtle that bonnet scoops
(it would also allow air through your oil cooler easier too

Prepare to get a lot of people telling you that it's just not necessary on a Mini. Apparently at anything above 5mph (or thereabouts) the temperature near the carb is exactly the same as right at the front of the engine bay. The whole Mini engine bay is effectively a huge cold air scoop. Like a big ol' basking shark!

I think you'd have to be running a Miglia spec engine, looking to squeeze every last bhp, in heavy competition use to require one. Do a search on these, they use a massive scoop, huge ducting connected to a big air box spanning the bulkhead area.

If you still want one, then the best bet will probably be a generic scoop mounted behind the grille (not behind your oil cooler which is carrying hot oil) then ducted up to the carb.

Alternatives would be the ERA Turbo bonnet 'scoop' although I believe this is more designed to let warm air out of the engine bay.

Thats not right...

The actually goes back in through the rear of the bonnet ( according to tests done at mira by one of the magazines) So rasieing the rear of the bonnet actually acts as a cold air intake. Dont ask me how that works, it just does.

Well I have raised the rear of the bonnet up already, but I was going to use this to let the hot air out of the engine bay.
I was just wondering if there was a nice scoop that i could use to get cold air directly onto the carb. I don't like the look of the new mini scoop, im trying to keep it looking period.

like someone said, research miglia spec motors.if your willing to pay for a well designed system,i think ian curley of curley carbonfibre makes a system for a weber.
Failing that,or if you dont want to spend much, have a look at 'merlin motorsport' website or 'carbuildersolutions'.

Have u wrapped your manifold with something like thermo tec exhaust wrap, claims to reduce heat from manifold/exhaust thus lowering engine bay temperatures.
