absolutly NOT!!! what a dumb statement who ever told u that rubbish!

rally cars need a hell of alot more than just numbers to rally, like thousands and thousands worth of equipment

speaking of which, heres mine...not the classicly styled rally car but a rally car non the less

someone in my club had massive problems when they told the insurers they had rally style numbers on their mini.

they can cause an issue, its something to do with the numbers needing to be crossed out or striked through when on public roads,
im sure it goes back to the original rules of rallying, when driving on public roads in between stages.

Here's a thread from a motorsport site which discusses race numbers on cars. It is very enlightening.

I remember a copper on here stating it wasnt illigal, however the MSA asks real competitors to strike through between stages etc as to show there not competing as so not to bring the sport and MSA into disrepute, if you are acting in a way to bring the MSA into disrepute they take your licence off you...and its expensive

its on a Q plate because the mini was built from a shell back in 1994. It used to be an old rover development SPI shell which was bought and turned into a rally car...then bought by mini sport, was on the cover of one of the old parts catalogs
