i am thinking of taking my mini off the road, to increase the power. i have looked at the block and the numbers on it are
12hd 1210477. i understand this is a metro 1275. i just wondered if someone know the spec of the engine and if left standard e.g pistons and crank etc what cam would be best, what bhp does it have and what the valve sizes are.

if it is a good engine as it seems to be is it worth modifying?

Sorry that code is not for an an Mg metro engine. But there is no reason not to modify 1275 metro engines Mg or not.
Use Guess works engine number decoder to get the exact spec for your engine. Its on the forum.

Hi dave you are quite correct the Mg metro head is the 12g940. But the Block number is 12hd17, or 12hd24, and these are specific to the Mg Blocks,

Thanks Andy for that bit of knowledge, much appreciated.
so you could have a mg block with standard metro head thats been swapped,in which case you need to remove it and measure the valves to be sure.
Is there a different in the blocks,i thought it was only a series/and A+.?
