Just bought one for mine.

£20 posted including a new seal and retaining ring - so about the same as you have found.

The minispares website only lists one unit for all saloons up to 92.

So I would deduce that this one will fit yours - best giving minisport a bell to be certain.

Steve.

Are you getting anything at all from the sender, ie is there any movement on the fuel gauge?

If you are getting at least something in the gauge then it could just be the contact against the copper coil.

I had the same problem with mine. Today I took it out, removed the cover from the contact/coil, bent the contact to provide better abrasion against the copper coil and refitted. I was even able to recalibrate it so that I got a better reading when full and empty but adjusting the screw and moving the float arm on the swivel.

Saved me £20 at Mini Spares. Worth a look.

As far as carb cars go, there are a few different types-

1959-1964 cars used a 6-bolt screw in sender unit (2A2163).
Feb to Oct 1964 cars WITHOUT a gauge voltage stabiliser used ARA959, now hard (impossible? to get?)
Oct 1964 onward cars used XNB10007, regardless of whether the tank was the early 5.5gal or later 7.5gal type.

Of course, vans, estates and pickups use different senders. Also, with malfunctioning/ incorrect readings of the fuel gauge, I've noticed that quite often it's the plastic float that is at fault, these become porous over time, take in fuel and don't sit on the top of the fuel in the tank.

I did think of taking mine apart and fixing it - but am fed up of the car being constantly off the road waiting for a new part to arrive when I find that the old one can't be mended. Gone are the days when you borrow a car and nip to the local motor factors who had most of the parts for a mini in stock (even halfords!!).

So for £20 weren't worth thinking about.

Know where you are coming from. I have it easy as Mini Spares (Midlands) is on my door step. To check and fix mine I just had to get a fresh rubber o-ring seal.

And it arrived this morning in the post - only ordered it LATE thursday night.

Just hope it works now!! ( and there isn't too much fuel in the tank!)
