Hi everyone

I recently fitted rear adjustable SPAX shock absorbers to Sonic the Pick up. I havent gotten round to doing the fronts yet.

Just out of interest, what setting does everyone else have theirs on? (How hard is your ride?!)

I was asking someone the other day who used to sell spax and he said for road driving it wants to be more like 2 clicks, roads are just too uneven and you'll end up jumping across the street if you hit a bump

Yeah it is a bit bumpy!

..So thats two clicks from the left? does it go from hard to soft or soft to hard?!

what they have (that ive encountered) is 15 settings, ranging from -7 to +7, by 2 clicks i mean fully soft, then two clicks other way.

i know that a lot of people have them set really hard so their car is lower without catching the arches, but it isnt the way to do it. if its that stiff for a road car then itll end up bouncing round corners. (and not very comfy bounces either)

i set the backs roughtly in the middle of the range and the 2/3 of the way up the range and that seems to give me good results. just a word of warning tho dont go to hard on the back esspecially on a pickup or you'll spend allyour time side ways like i did at first.

i doubt there a specific setting for any car,it depends on what you want, comfort or handling,on the road you normally have to compromise between the 2.
also what the roads are like you use mostly, some countys like berkshire are like offroad tracks other relatively smooth.
I wouldnt go for a certain setting, best thing to do is,set them midway and experiment with harder and softer settings, the front will almost always need to be stiffer than the rear due to the weight distribution front to back.
So have a fiddle and see what your happiest with,
hth

A while ago I read in one of the Mini Mags that rule of thumb for Spax was to run twice as many clicks on the front as on the rear. For the road I run 4-2 but for track days it goes up to 10-5. Bear in mind that a pick up body is lighter in the rear than a saloon so it may be worth trying a softer setting.

Yup I get that. I was just wondering what everyone else had theirs set on. I was more curious than anything. I have been experiamenting with settings. I got it on about 9 at the moment and it seems fine. Better than fully stiff! God that was painfull!

I'm running on coil springs so I have mine set at 8 all over. Planning to bring the back down to 6 though since there's less weight over there.

Spax is a great improvement over the standard shockers. I'm glad I upgraded them. :D
