Hi Guys,

I fitted the above in my racer last week and all was good and well on the first short test drive. 2nd time out, i dropped the clutch from a standing start to give it a bit more of a test and it unsettled things and i could hear / feel an intermittent light vibration or grinding sound when rolling the car back and forwards on the drive. Out came the engine and diff, expecting to find a loose bolt or something similar, but everything looks as it should.

I'm now wondering whether i have the Crown wheel seated correctly on the diff, or ive not shimmed the bearings correctly and the original clearance is no longer adequate.

I think there are very small signs of the crownwheel rubbing on the main bearing in the below picture and the crownwheel is right of centre when lined up with the pinion:

The bolts provided with the CWP dont seem to be coming as far through the holes as i would expect, leading me to wonder about the location of the crownwheel???:

It looks to be seated correctly, but if someone could confirm if the location looks normal, that would be appreciated! >_<)

The Crownwheel is pretty much flush with the end of the diff, should there be any overhang?

cheers

Nick

Just fitted the ones from before. I know this could be the reason, but the problem seems more substantial than this

possibally not the main cause but saying that if you dnt set the peload right on the bearing.. too much or too little and it could cause these symtems.. everything looks ok from a quick look in the photo...but saying this ive not worked on mini lsds much before...sorry cnt be of more help just didnt see anyone posting so thought id give it a shot.

The crownwheel looks like it's on correctly, the main thing when fitting them is to do the bolts up progressively so the wheel comes on square, but with LSD's there are clearance issues in the diff housing. It maybe worth checking the shims (preload) when the diff is fitted, but also it may be necessary to position the diff unit towards the n/s and preload on the off side diff cover rather than the normal n/s, may only be 20/30 thou of shift but when considering clearances that can be enough.

Thanks mate, i'll clear a little more off the case and shim it up correctly this time and hope for the best!!
