Whats the best way to run in your brand new 1380 , and 1330 engines????

A 5 day trip to the lake district sounded good , or crazy.

After packing both the mini's up with all and sundry we left oxford on wednesday morning for the 320 mile trip to lake coniston in cumbria , both cars had a pre -trip inspection courtesy of pitstop in witney , with the engines set to safe for running in we set off on our epic adventure.
Over the next 5 days we went travelled the entire lake district and came across some mad sights, sounds and people, ill let the pictures do the talking.

The only casualty was chars exhaust falling off , which was bodged back on with some trusty tie raps.
both cars have now covered the first 1000 miles so are ready for their power runs next month, although after a 9 hour drive home courtesy of motorway traffic i doubt well take them that far for a while

I did a 750 mile road trip from Saltash(cornwall), to Bristol, Tumble(wales), Highley(Shropshire), Nottingham and back home. Car was fine... about 5 days after, really loud knocking. Started taking the engine out, drained oil plenty metal shards in it. I think it pasted its expiry date. Then again, that engine cost the previous owner £20 and its been in the car for about 4 years and been thrashed. Its amazing it lasted this long. Looks like you had fun!

Neil the green tent was a shelter type thing we got for cooking , and yes 9 hours in a mini with no sound soundproofing, headlining or carpets with straight cut drops is not ideal , the novelty soon wore off lol,

Looks like fun. Cheers for the Calender, it's now been re-located to GEF.

Why did you go back on the motorway, you could easily have done a large part of that on country roads. Yorshire moors etc etc.

ummm, Kendal, then down to Devil's bridge and before you know it you're in Yorkshire. Who says you have to take the direct root. I'm from Kendal, and drive these roads regularly. Find some great routes if you program the sat nav to avoid motorways >_<

You're just following the M6.

We found to our misfortune and due to the minor roads if you get stuck behind a caravan for example it turns into a nightmare , it took us 2 hours to get to the m6 from conniston due to being stuck behind a motorhome .
I will say one thing , the locals apreciated the mini's alot more than we get down south , down in langley we just get tooted at and ran off the road , it was a nice change.

Always wanted to take mine up the the lakes, brother in law owns a holiday cottage in Boot, and the roads round there are perfect for a mini (that has been run in of course). Only thing is the walls are built to bounce you off them!!

Nice photos too >_<
