ok so ive just bought myself an earlex hv3000 spray station nd im thinkin ill save meself a few hundred quid nd go for rustoleum combicolour.

The first question is how much will it take to do a full respray. Ie inside and outside aswell as boot and engine bay.

Second is how much do i thin it down? I see people sayin just enough to get it through the gun but surly that leaves an awful finish

What is the best sort of thinners to use to get the highest quality finish

Finally if i do everything right what sort of finish can i expect to get?

Thanks in advance

Basically whats so good about it is u can paint a car for 50 quid and it does give a little added benefit against rust.

Well I have been using Rustolem for the past year now. I have done the out side panels, boot and under the arches (with earlex sprayer) and that has taken around 2 liter of piant (may be less). I have used a different colur (white) for the roof, inside and the engine bay and that needed just over 1 liter.

As for thining down the paint, the best mixture I have found is around 2 parts paint to 1 part Rustolem thinner (part 7301). any thiner and you will get runs and alot of ornage peel. If you are painting in current wethear then that mixture is fine (I painted some panels this morning). If you are painting outside (like me), do it first thing in the morning, it will take around 2-3 hours to harden and around 6-8 to recoat, to be safe I add one coat every 2 day.

Aslo you need to flatten the paint preferably after every coat, if not every 2 coats. You will need around 5-6 coat to get a good coverage and rust protection. Finally leave it for around 2 weeks to fully harden and then cut back and polish.

I have uploaded some pictures on this thread of some of the work.

were you using the standard 2mm needle or the 1.5mm? because people who were using the 1.5mm needle said to thin it 50 50
