Hey guys,
i have a 998cc with a stage 1 kit fitted. i havent got much knowledge at the moment with mini's slowly getting there. have i got a rev limiter? of not, how far past the red line can i take it without damaging anything? or am i highly likely to damage something if i do take it past?

There are no rev limiters on minis, dont go in the red because you will do damage Thats why its there. RED = danger. About 5500 is a safe limit and you wont get much if any more power by reving it to death.

On my stage one 998 the power is gone by about 5600 rpm which is before the red line so there is no need to go any higher.

Over Rev the car and you'll cook:
Block
Pistons
Valves
Thermo Stat
Gears
Big End Bearings
Con rods
Water Pump

i like to keep mine bellow 4.5... gives good power up to there, but anything past isnt worth the risk in my opinion... all my power is lower down anyways...

Stage 1 998 should be good for 6000. No point taking it there with a standard cam though.

Tom's right, stage 1 998 will go to 6000 rpm. But, there's nothing there power wise so it's pointless. Change around 5500 and you still be pulling away on power and not losing it.

to be honest I can't really see any damage occurring anyways unless your sitting it on the redline for hours
. The valves should bounce well before the rods fly through the block! I take mine to 7000 regularly - standard crank, standard rods, standard block, thermostat, water pump, bearings etc. etc. etc.....

Doubt it.
I agree with tom. A standard engine isn't going to kill itself with the occasional rev up.

I have a rev limiter
, can't remember what it's set at tho 6500 I think but then I do have a fairly tuned small bore, don't take it all the way up often.

would have to say, if you hit the red line once or twice for a very short amount of time every so often, i cant really imagine a huge amount of damage will be done!
