Basically as some of you might know I decided to drive the mini from Sweden to my parents in central Scotland. The Journey over was smooth as silk, stopped of in london and got asuspension kit fitted and then a stage 1 kit with kn filter at minisport fitted by them. got 73 bhp on the rollong road afterwards on a 96 spi, was chuffed and drove form there to glasgow and have been driving around the last couple of days with no problems!!!

I due to beging to drive back tomorrow - first to york and then the gaydon show before heading back to france etc etc.

BUT today the car started to idle at really low revs. SO much so when i slow down brake at a junction the car stalls and i need to restart (it does start every time with no probs). Basically under medium to heavy braking this happens.

What could this be?

Something to do with the k and n filter?

Im getting a bit stressed out!

Cheers

Craig

i had this on an spi when the coil had given up. it would fire straight back up again but then on slowing down again it would die on idle. just an idea as it sounds similar.

also have you tried blowing out the vapour trap located between the throttle body and the brake servo. make sure you note which way round to put it back and check all vacuum pipes for breaks on the elbows as spi's are prone to air leaks because of this.

cheers dark scamp -

the vacuum hoses look fine.

never thought about the coil.

Could it be a clogged fuel filter maybe?

any other suggestions?

I have no experience of SPI's, but if it only seems to be under braking, the only way I could think of the two being connected would be the servo/vacuum hoses? Not sure if it would work the same but when I have or think I have an air leak I open the bonnet with the engine running, then spray a little bit of carb cleaner around. If the revs drop theres a leak.

Good luck!
