Some kind soul (not really what I think, but best not to print that) pulled the door mirror off one of our Minis at the weekend. The trouble is it has pulled the fittings (I think they are rivnuts) out of the door skin - does anyone know where to get new ones? I will try the ex-Rover dealers nearby, but in case they no longer deal in Mini bits I will need somewhere else to try.

Cheers

Andy

U might have to fix them back on with

a bolt with a nut on the insde of the door

as the hole for the rivit with tread in would now be to big

I hope I can get the holes back to the right size with a panel beaters hammer and appropriate support behind.

Just a real pain to get behind it to hold the bolt/nuts in place :(

Since new door skins are sold without the rivnuts they are available on their own from most Mini specialists. Minispares or Moss should both have them in stock. Or try The Mini Door Company. You'll be surprised how big a hole a rivnut will expand into, it should be OK. You will need a rivnut setting tool though, which aren't expensive (just don't expect a cheap one to last).

Done this before - wrap some tape round your finger, so it's got the sticky side on the outside (or just double it over) and put the nut on your finger

Wind your window fully down, and poke your finger+nut carefully into the gap at the front of the door. Line the nut up against the door where the hole is - hold the wing mirror to the door, and put the bolt in

After you've got the bolt in as far as you can before the nut comes off your finger, just pull on the bolt as you tighten it to try and keep it still. Mind you, a star washer would make your life a LOAD easier!

then just repeat for the 2nd bolt - job done!

wasnt that at all actually :( it was my driver side mirror and it would never stay in place because the screws wouldn't get a proper grip, only thing i had to hand. I must say though it worked really well , when i went to remove the mirror the other week i thought i might just be lazy and hit it off but it wouldnt budge :(
