I have a very early 998 A-series with a 25d dizzy, the vacuum advance is not working and has some wear to shaft.

Can i swop this for a 45d dizzy thats brand new with out any problems or do i have to stick to a 25d?

Thanks Simon.

You can use the 45D. Subsequent posts by others will warn that the advance curve isn't going to be ideal or right. However, most of the aftermarket suppliers in the U.S. only offer one universal fit 45D distributor for all A- and B-series engine. Apparently they came up with a compromise advance curve that they feel is OK in most applications. If you have one of those distributors I doubt you'll notice any change in performance or economy.

If any use I've a heap of 25d's soemwhere in the garage taken from various applications they're dirty but all good (but not guaranteed as they've been sat for 20 years plus) I may be able to sort you a replacement for your application for a pint & postage - alternatively as DK says a 45D will do the job...

You can get a BRAND NEW 45D dizzy from Simon BBC for less than £30 - possibly less than £25 if you find him on ebay. It's a screaming bargain. Any original advance curve was set up (maybe!) for leaded petrol - the fuel we have today is very different - so the new advance curve may well be fine. Worth trying - can always adjust if necessary.
Here's the link - http://cgi.ebay.co.u...=item1c0fba23b3 You can always add 'electronics' to it later - but personally - I can't see the point.

Personally -I wouldn't bother with 'electronic' version - it's just not worth it. But the price for a complete NEW 45D dizzy is such a bargain - go for it!
