hi everyone, i have removed the old rusty door skin from my door and just about repaired the frame, however....i offered up the magnum door skin i have and it just quite simply doesnt fit!!

it is about 10mm taller, no where near the same profile and is about 5 mm wider.

does anyone have any advice for me?

has anyone fitted one successfully?

have i got a dodgy batch?

any help appreciated

you say 10mm taller or do you mean 10mm lower,

its larger as its a tab, which you need to tap round onto the frame its self, little by little and not to be rushed,

make sure you line up the skin, i've used a bolt in the past through the door lock to hold the skin in place and clamps where the skin meets the window frame ,

hope this helps

Silly question time, you say you repaired the frame but did you take measurements first before you repaired the frame?? Was the repair replacing the lower section of the frame??
Have you tried folding the edges yet or have you just laid it on.

You could try hanging the door without the skin (be careful) again to see if it fits in the cutout, if it does and the gaps are ok then it could well be the skin at fault.

My first skin was from SCparts and although it went on ok i have got a bow in upper section. This has been mentioned by other members as well but other members have not had a problem so its coming off and i'm fitting a Heritage skin which straight away looks better plus the top section is reinforced better so hopefully i won't suffer the same problem again.

Hope this helps but if its 10mm and 5mm too big then its probably a duff one.

Are you aware that the skin should sit roughly 10 cm above the inner skin at the top, also the skin should be slightly wider. I've fitted a magnum skin, it wasn't the best, but it fitted fine with slight fettling.

Have you offered the skin up to the car to see if it fit?

As said before, the skin isn't intended to be a tight fit to the frame.

Door skin fitting can be a little bit tricky, make sure you keep checking the fit before fully crimping it.

thanks for the replies guys,

no i wasnt aware that the outer skin sits higher than the inner one...thanks for pointing this out.

yes it is the lower frame im repairing but only small sections.

i only laid the skin on quickly but my plan is ( as said ) to hang the door to check all is well with the gaps and also try the skin in the opening and see how it goes.

anyone got any pictures to help me along?
