Hi, I'm 16 and looking for a mini as my first car.. I have a keen interest in mechanical things and I would also like to have something I can treat as a bit of a project. :D

I was looking at ebay at cars and I found this "shabby" city e..

http://cgi.ebay.co.u...#ht_1392wt_1137

I then went to look at the insurance, got a quote on a comparison site using all my real details just a year older etc. The quotes came back at around £3800! And with my dad on as a named driver it only came down by £150..

Is this normal? Am I looking at the right type of car? someone please point me in the right direction.. :'(

Dont use comparison sites. They charge a fee for you using them so infact the prices they show arnt the cheapest you can get. With a mini their a loads of places that do special insurance. Buy a mini mag and look in the back. Their loads in their. I have quite a modded 998 and my first years was £1600.

I was getting ridiculous quotes too. Try Footman and James, i guarentee you they will give you a quote under £1500 for TPFT - maybe even FC,

Topic moved to insurance area

As said , try and get as many quotes as possible , maybe try a more specialised insurer such as HIC or Adrian Flux for example.

@Pooky, thanks alot for the recommendation.. I'll take a look.

@Mini-Jon thanks alot, I have a mag kicking around somewhere in the house.. I'll take a look. Can you recommend any companies in particular? What was the company you used? What was the excess like and who else was on the policy?

Mate honestly the best insurance company by far is footman James. I am only 17 and for a 1275cc Mini was 541 pound 3rd party. And you need to join a mini club e.g. british mini club (only 20pound). A friend with a 998cc mini (same age) got the same price for his.

I'm 17 and a named driver on an Aviva policy, which was a very decent quote. Beware, policies usually double when you go from provisional to full liscence. Just check this before you take out the policy.

Good luck!

Dan :(
